I like the fact that the WD TV Live plays so many formats and never hiccups. Dies, yes, hiccups no. I was watching a video today, and all of a sudden, it disconnected from the NAS. Usually when this happens, I can go back to the file, and it remembers where it left off. Not this time. Fast forwarding didn't work, either, as pressing the button only produced the "restricted" symbol (circle with the line through it). Even when forward/reverse do work, they're clunky, to say the least. Press reverse, and the screen freezes, then begins to reverse. Where it stops is usually within a minute of where you want it to be. Obviously no one who designed this essential feature ever used it.
Hardware updates have been slow and unreliable. The last one bricked a lot of units, and WD recalled the update. Fortunately I didn't install it. Right now we're stuck with a lot of bugs and no fix. A quick search of the web will produce quite a few hits about bugs, many of which I can confirm.
There really aren't a lot of choices for a media player that does as much as the WD TV Live does. Most of the time you can find workarounds, and you won't experience freezes all that often. So, it is usable? Yes. It does seriously need updates.Get more detail about Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN.
