The only good thing i could say about this product is its size and the users interface. The unit is very small and slick. I also have a ASUS O!Play and the WDTV UI design definitely looks better. However, looks is one thing, whether the product actually works is very different matter. I bought this WDTV live mainly for two features, watching movies stored in my PC and watching the clip in my youtube account.
both of this function have major bugs. let start with the youtube part, whenever i log in to my youtube account in the WDTV, it will reboot itself. so i can't watch the clips i saved in my youtube playlist. it works fine if i just watch the feature selection or search on youtube but it is painful to search the same every time.
The thing i hate the most is the network sharing. it doesn't work well with finding the share folders from my PC. You really need to try your luck to see which folder the WDTV able to see each time you power it on. Even if the WDTV found the share folder, it will show "no media found" when you click the folder. I spend many nights trying to figure that out and also calling WD support, but no use. I finally gave it up and purchase another ASUS O!Play instead. O!play doesn't work with online content like youtube but it did a far better job in pulling content from my PC. It is pretty much plug and play, less then 5 minutes and i can see all my share drive and play pretty much any video format.
if you are looking for a media player to watch content from NAS or share drive, then don't waste your time on WDTV live, go for ASUS O!play.
